My spouse cares for the children and earns much more than I do. Must I still pay maintenance?

Both spouses generally must contribute to their children's support to the best of their ability. Money and care are generally treated equally. Thus one parent often cares for the children while the other contributes financially.

Exceptionally, the caregiving parent may be financially well placed while the other has very limited means. The caregiving parent may then have to cover at least part of the children's expenses in addition to providing care.
